Our previous generations members came on the Mayflower, and settled in Stamford CT in the 1600's! That's a long time for this country :) Post your stories and favorite places, and visit back and let's have some fun!
One of our favorite things to do, any time of year is to take a drive up Route 7 North. This old state highway starts in Norwalk CT. From Norwalk to New Milford Route 7 is a commercial area populated with strip malls, traffic congestion and shopping. However this area does have several hot spots for shopping, eating out and some great history. North of Norwalk the congestion thins out in Wilton and Ridgefield. A great spot for lunch or dinner is the "Little Pub" in Branchville (part of Ridgefield). You will have to wait if you get there around lunch or dinner, but it is usually worth it. The outdoor seating is fun and has a fireplace outside on the deck. (This blogger used to work in this pub under different ownership a long time ago).
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking for something more formal the Stonehenge in Ridgefield, on the left side traveling north, is very well known for i t's great food and atmosphere. It's been sometime for us eating there, but we enjoyed a Holiday Dinner very much.
Ridgefield is a fantastic town if you are looking for a clean, nice town where people walk around and visit shops and restaurants.
This town has Keeler Tavern Museum http://keelertavernmuseum.org/ where a cannonball from the Revolutionary war is still in the wall!
The battle of Ridgefield was fought in this town in the Revolutionary war in 1777. Antique shops are found along the way on Main Street. You will need to look at a map to see how to get to Main Street, since it is not on Route 7. Or just plug it in your GPS. There is good cell service in this area.
